Almost every business whether its local or international,digital or physical product heck even a random kid has a website but not all websites get equal traffic and conversion rate.A website design determines the success of the website.A good web design should fulfill its intended purpose by making the visitor/customer understand its intended message.

Web traffic has a number of channels to come but conversion rate is also a factor aka how many visitors do a call to action like filling a contact form, reading a post etc. and web design is one of the main factors that will make visitors stay on your business website.

Keep your design as simple as possible in respect to your niche.Also note that minimal doesn’t mean website with only black and white elements ,minimal in the sense you don’t overcrowd the user with information and unnecessary pages.Makes your design as simple it needs to be sense the main purpose of a website is to convey info about your business and convenience them to do a call to action.

Another important topic I want to talk about is visual weight ,visual weight is the concept that certain design elements have some weight relative to each other for example if have two images together one bigger in size and one smaller the bigger would draw your attention more thus is considered heaver .It is most commonly used with colors like if you have two color squares on a white backdrop one black and one cream .The box with the cream color will feel much lighter that the black box.

You should visual weight to draw attention to information and simultaneously keep it balanced

2)Purpose

Now Purpose ,purpose gives meaning to anything .Similarly  a site needs to be designed based on its purpose

A simple way to put is to ask yourself necessary questions like 

What does your website at first glance need to convey?How will you provide it?

Which demographic of people is your business/service for?What type of site will you be designing? Etc

Once your site purpose is established it will be easy to get an idea of your site .A site has different purpose based on its niche , brand image, marketing strategy etc

3) Content

A design alone is like the external design on a phone.You would probably notice many beautifully designed phones releasing but would barely make sales most probably because their internal software is underwhelming.

Similarly web design is a package but its content will give it life and make visitors stay.Defining your site's purpose makes it easy to decide what type of content you need to provide.Make sure your content is high quality or else it will just look like a well drawn graphic novel with a boring plot.

Most importantly structure your content based on importance and should be logical not one para hear and the continuation on the other tab

4)Navigation

The navigation is a road of your website with signs telling you where to go,if your visitors get confused while traveling your website they will immediately click away to another site.

Thus create a logical page hierarchy and make sure your nav bar is right in front of the user with well designed buttons

5)Images

As the famous quote goes “An image is worth a thousand word ”.Use images supporting your style.When a visitor first enters your site they don't usually just read your site they scan it first and images are the very first impression the user gets about the purpose of your site. Thus make sure your business/service website  purpose is easily conveyed as much through an image.

Your image should have a balanced visual weight and shouldn’t feel out of place 

6)Consistency in typography,imagery,color & overall design

While going through your website make sure it goes in a flow, make everything consistent with maybe a few exceptions depending on the purpose.Finalize the font,color palate and type of image you should use.

Make the number of words present in a given section the utmost same. For example in the features section you don’t want one section to be one sentence and another a small paragraph .Humans easily find anything odd so make sure your overall design is consistent.

8)Mobile responsiveness

Mobile accounts for approximately half of web traffic worldwide.Nearly 54.8 percentage of global web traffic was from mobile in the first quarter of 2021.

If your site is not mobile responsive you will lose more than half of the worlds traffic

9)Load Time

Load time is like waiting in a queue except you can easily change queue and go to another site .Long load time are frustrating so make sure your site loads less than 3 seconds

10)Color is power

Color brings out specific emotion in us in our day to day lives .Likewise color choice in a website makes it easier to sell it message to its visitors.

Now I will explain basics of color theory

Complementation

From the name itself ,complementation refers to how some colors complement each other.Complementary colors are colors in the opposite spectrum in the color wheel.They provide a balance between both colors ,it doesn’t direct your attention to one or the other color  and result in less strain in the eyes when seen.

Example:Yellow compliments violet and orange compliments blue

Contrast

Contrast is the opposite of complimentary colors.Contrast helps grab attention to the user .Use contrast to dvert attention to certain information

Vibrancy

Colors bring certain emotion to us like bright colors(red, orange, yellow) make us feel energized while warm color (blue,purple) tend to relax us.

Use emotion of colors to your advantage .I will list come colors and the emotion they evoke

• Red:Power,importance,alertful
• Orange:friendliness
• Yellow:happiness,energy
• Green:nature ,growth,money
• Blue:calm,safety
• Purple:Luxury
• Black and White are neutral thus take meaning from other colors
